A Summary of Impact

Cleveland—(September 20, 2005)—Five years. 220 alumni. 96% increase in alumni’s leadership skills. 100% employer satisfaction.

These numbers are concrete and give an idea of the impact Cleveland Bridge Builders has had since our founding in 2000. As part of our fifth year initiatives we sought to quantify the impact we have had on our participants and the impact they have had in community.

To do this, in the spring and summer of 2005, CBB surveyed its Flagship Program alumni and their employers through an online survey designed to gauge the effect CBB has had in four main areas: Community Involvement, Leadership Skill Development, Relationships/Networks, and Professional Impact.

The survey helped us identify in which areas CBB has been highly successful, such as Leadership Skill Development – 96% of respondents felt that the Flagship Program has positively impacted their leadership skills with highest percentage of change attributed to increased leadership styles and collaboration skills.

The resulting professional impact has been profound. It was unanimous to the employers who responded that the Program is a positive investment of both time and money, and more than half of the graduates have said that they’ve taken the initiative to motivate their employers to become more civically active, therefore driving their companies to responsibly engage in the civic arena.

CBB measures its success in part by the success its program participants have in the community as civic leaders. During the program year we develop their skills and vision for a more dynamic community as we define effective civic leadership. CBB works with our alums to connect them with opportunities for service in the community. Over 68% of alums have connected with one opportunity and 25% with 2 or more opportunities since graduation.

Finally, CBB is helping to retain people in Northeast Ohio. 85% of graduates think NEOhio is a better place to live, work and play as a result of their CBB experience and 12 alums said no to an opportunity to leave NEOhio citing their CBB experience as a major part of their decision to stay.

The future is bright for NEOhio and CBB will continue to identify, train and develop effective civic leaders.
